Jobseekers advised to register at nearest Subcouncil, not Wale Street

Jobseekers do not need to go to Wale Street to register on the City’s Jobseekers Database. Those wanting to register for Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) opportunities can register or re-register at their nearest subcouncil. Read more below:
The City wants to warn jobseekers against a fake news post that has been circulated on social media about jobseekers needing to register at the Wale Street Subcouncil office in the Cape Town CBD to get a job. This is fake news.
How to register on the City’s Jobseekers Database:
- Jobseekers can register at their nearest subcouncil office, don’t waste your money on travelling into town
- What you need to register: your South African ID; your proof of address
- Additional information: courses that you have completed, qualifications, your CV
- Jobseekers must register every year to ensure the City has your latest contact details and address
‘We are sad that so many unemployed people have fallen prey to a fake post on Facebook and spent money to travel into town. I want to remind jobseekers that you can register and re-register at your closest subcouncil office. Please do not fall for fake news,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Corporate Services, Alderman Theresa Uys.
